Apple

Apple is a fruit of the apple tree, species “Malus” in the rose family. Apple tree is cultivated widely and originated in Asia. There are more than 8000 known apple cultivars which are various according to their harvest and the extreme size of the tree also when grown on the similar area. About 60 million tons of apples are grown globally with about 11 billion USD value. China produced about 36%, the United States is the second leading grower with about 7 % and Iran is the third producer and exporter of apple fruit with 3%.

IRAN Apple

Due to the various climate conditions in Iran, different types of apples have been grown along the country. The main provinces which are producing apple are Azerbaijan, Isfahan, Khorasan and Tehran. As every region has its special weather and soil texture, theses apples have various characteristic like Shelf Life, firmness, color, taste and perfume. Despite ShafiAbadi and Shemrooni species which are grown domestically, the famous and popular varieties such as Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala and Red Delicious are grown in Iran. Average diameter of each Iran apple is about 65 mm. The color of the skin is red or golden (yellowish), inside color is yellow or white and the taste of apples is sweet. Varieties are Red Delicious Apple, Golden Delicious Apple, Granny Smith, Gana, Kohnaz Golab. Main Production Areas are Alborz, khorasan, Tehran, Fars, Azarbaijan and Isfahan Provinces. Taste is Sweet and  the season is October to Jun.
